Start with the information
Before creating custom fields, we first identify the information the website needs to manage.
A property website may need properties, locations, agents and amenities. An education platform may need courses, instructors, programmes and locations. A hospitality website may need venues, rooms, experiences or events.
We define which information belongs together, what should become a separate content type and how different entities need to relate to each other.
This creates a content model based on the business rather than the layout of a particular page.
When the same type of information appears repeatedly across a website, managing every item as an independent page creates unnecessary work. Custom post types give that information a dedicated place inside WordPress.
Each content type can have its own fields, taxonomy, relationships and templates while remaining connected to the rest of the website.
This makes the administration interface clearer and allows the website to grow without creating an increasingly complicated collection of manually built pages.
